English-Vietnamese blog of a Fashion illustrator / Textile designer
(Blog song ngữ Anh- Việt của một họa sỹ minh họa thời trang/ thiết kế vải)
This is a story of how I created a book cover for "Pas a pes" - The book about the journey of a rescued dog written by Jakub Kynčl.
"Why always go on putting dividing lines between man and woman? The truth is that every man carries a woman within him, and every woman carries a man within her. And it is bound to be so, because whether you are man or woman, you are created by one man, one woman. They have contributed to you half and half. Your father and your mother both are alive in you. It is only a question of which side of the coin is facing up and which side is underneath."
…I was pretty sure it would fail but still wanted to try anyway. Through trial and error, artist finds their own style and techniques; through art we discover more about ourselves. Like everything else in life, to make sure if something/ someone's is suitable for you, you just have to give it a try…
“Keep your head up princess, if not the crown falls...”
…The beauty of life sometimes lies in the unknown. The most beautiful meaningful part is not the final answer we ascertain but the journey we take in order to get to it…
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”― Lao Tzu
After all, it's not what you do for Tet, in Tet. It's how you feel. And the whole point of this time is letting go of the bad to welcome the new better ones; is being with people you love, giving love to them and being loved; is spreading kindness and joy for better days to come.
This week I'm going to share with you another line of work of mine which is aside from fashion illustration- Surface pattern/ textile design. Regarding the story behind how I started with surface pattern design, please read this interview: http://girlsclub.asia/meet-the-artist/bui-thuy-an/
In this article, I'll get straight to the point to tell you how I create a textile design from scratch and walk you through a project of mine from start to finish.
Now, giving you some background regarding the project I want to talk about this week: Mea Dignita- Swiss house of couture- came back to me for another project. They planned a luxury exclusive lady-cocktail-night - "being together, speaking about fashion and everything else, enjoying fresh cocktails and beautiful sound", said Mea Dignita.
I'd like to share with you the process of how I worked with Mea Dignita- Swiss house of couture- to create fashion illustrations for their new collection.
Unlike commissioned projects for clients with fixed briefs, I usually think a lot about my ideas before actually drawing anything for my personal projects. Normally, at the point when I finally start drawing, I already have a clear vision of what I want: from the composition, details of objects I want to put in there to color palette I want to use…
Now, you'll probably ask yourself: So what the hell is this girl doing with fairy tale here???
I wanted to create a universe within the woman, carrying all of her in depth mysteries, being hidden inside but also can be burning brightly, collapsing into sparkling stars like how galaxies are made for billions of years. That's the woman who has both universe within and universe outside.
To me, rose is a contradictory flower- it has all the beauty and fragrance which are world wide praised in different cultures but going along with that undeniable beauty are thorns which can hurt anyone trying to touch it.
I'm here to share with you my journey, what I have learned in nearly 2 decades holding brush to paint and hope I can also learn something from you too.

Ms. Duo represents the duality of human existence; good and evil, beauty and horror, love and hate. She inhabits human vessels for the duration of their lifetime, shifting to another when they expire. She passes unseen by mortal eyes but her haunting presence instills unexplained dread in those nearby.
